The fruit quality is superb, a delicious blend of black and red fruit aromas that typify Fonseca’s vintage Port wines, mixed with notes of dark chocolate. Around this powerful, complex fruit centre, there is an aura of balsamic and minty aromas. Though the nose is sensual and seductive, it presents a striking firm outline, provided by graphite and a stony mineral note. The first impression on the palate is softness, but the tannins erupt suddenly at the finish with assertive bite and a thread of acidity that gives the wine a lively freshness. There is an abundance of crisp wild fruit flavours that linger into the long finish. This magnificent Vintage Guimaraens Port displays resilience and depth, yet is flexible enough and expressive enough to drink early.
