Since the legendary 1840, the first Vintage Port wine released on the market, through to the spectacular vintages declared in the last decade, Fonseca has produced a series of acclaimed wines, even in the most challenging moments of history. The wine presents a deep black core with a fine purple rim. The nose opens with a dense cloud of blackberries and currants. Compact and concentrated, it shows great purity, a hallmark of the 2011 vintage. The bouquet gradually unfurls, revealing an intoxicating matrix of aromatic herbs, subtle exotic wood notes, fig and plum, along with an alluring graphite mineralism. It is solid, with well-integrated tannins that give volume and firmness on the palate, backed by dense black fruit and rich dark chocolate and licorice. It is a vigorous and fruit-forward vintage, as is the tradition of Fonseca Vintages. The bottling year may not match the image presented (illustrative only).
