One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate that once belonged to D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the Ferreirinha, and which still today remains in the hands of her descendants. The Vallado wines had been unjustly forgotten, but they have now naturally reclaimed the time lost. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro and deserve to occupy the topmost places. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the Douro. It is situated close to Régua, on the banks of the Rio Corgo. The destiny of this emblematic estate rests in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the management of the company and the enology, respectively.
