Vega Sicilia – a name that resonates with legend in the world of wine. It all began in 1864, with Don Eloy Lecanda inheriting vineyards originally purchased from the esteemed Marqués de Valbuena. These early plantings focused on classic Bordeaux varieties, alongside the region’s signature Tempranillo. Now, following the Álvarez family’s acquisition in 1982, Vega Sicilia is defined by a dedication to exceptional quality, patient aging, and a deep respect for the land – a vast estate spanning nearly 1,000 hectares, heavily influenced by the mighty Duero River. Notably, the estate’s prized wines, like the highly-regarded ‘Valbuena’ and ‘Unico’, are crafted from meticulously selected parcels, with ‘Unico’ benefiting from an astonishing 10 years of aging before release – a truly exceptional commitment. These wines are a testament to the remarkable terroirs where the vines are nurtured, and a celebration of a legacy rooted in the heart of the Ribera del Duero and Toro DO regions.
