About this grape variety

Acreditou-se durante muito tempo que tinha sido perdida com a filoxera; a Carmenère foi redescoberta no Chile em 1994, confundida com Merlot durante mais de um século. A casta — originalmente bordalesa — tornou-se a assinatura distintiva do Chile: vinhos de cor profunda, encorpados, com aromática de fruta vermelha madura, chocolate escuro, pimento verde e grafite. A Carmenère precisa de calor para amadurecer completamente, sob pena de desenvolver notas verdes agressivas. Os vales de Colchagua e Cachapoal no Chile são o seu reduto moderno.
