A family business with nearly two centuries of history that never rests on its laurels has learned to modernise. José Maria da Fonseca has been producing wine since 1834, a result of a shared passion that preserves and projects the memory and prestige of its founder. Aware of its responsibility as today’s oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel de Setúbal in Portugal, the company follows a philosophy of continuous development, investing ever more in research and production support, marrying modern techniques with traditional knowledge. A prime example is the José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes winery in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Alentejo, where the Roman tradition of fermenting in clay pots coexists with the latest technology.
