This Madeira Wine presents a deep golden color with golden reflections. The nose is characteristic and has good intensity, revealing notes of dried and crystallised fruits, with apricot in greater emphasis and persistent nuances of iodine and brandy. In the mouth it is medium dry, with some saltiness and a long finish, full of exotic fruits and spices. Over 200 years, Blandy's Madeira has been synonymous with high-quality Madeira wine. Blandy, the only family among all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade still owning and managing its original company, has played a significant role in leading the development of Madeira wine throughout its history, with family members still living on the island, maintaining a tradition dating back to 1811. The Madeira Wine Company was originally an association of several Madeira wine producers who decided to unite to strengthen their purchasing and production capabilities. This association was founded in 1913. During times of discord, the old family companies of Blandy's and Leacock joined, followed immediately after by a dispute with Miles and Cossart Gordon, creating the largest producer and exporter of Madeira wine. Regardless of its size, maintaining the unique characteristics and style of each individual company was at the heart of the association’s focus. By the late 1970s, interests in the Madeira Wine Company, as it became known, were reduced to only a handful of the original families, with the Blandy family holding the controlling share. In 1989, the Blandy family, needing to strengthen the sales and marketing side of the business, invited the Symington family from Porto, Portugal, to join them in partnership. This partnership has continued to the present day, allowing the Madeira Wine Company to play a leading role in developing the Madeira wine trade.
