This Adega Mãe Merlot certainly seems to have had a rebellious youth – pre-fermentation maceration, controlled fermentation and a stage in new French oak barrels promise a real character. On the palate, it delivers a wine of fiery colour, with aromas of sweet paprika, a hint of dark chocolate and ripe fruit, all in perfect harmony – as awarded 16.5 points by Revista de Vinhos. It boasts a robust structure and firm tannins, with a long, persistent finish. A fantastic match for grilled red meats, perhaps a hearty beef stew, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous!
