This Alentejo Baga has clearly spent some time in French oak – it’s a remarkably straightforward and refreshing expression of the grape. Initially, the nose offers dried red fruit and herbaceous notes, reminiscent of a slightly neglected wild garden. On the palate, the structure is gentle, with tannins that are remarkably restrained, and a vibrant acidity that, alongside the fruit, leads to a finish that’s undeniably elegant. A reliable choice, perhaps a little predictable, but it delivers its purpose with considerable skill. Wonderful with grilled fish or a selection of artisanal cheeses.
