Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has travelled a long journey, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in the country. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring estates across Portugal and setting new standards for quality wine production. Regarded as the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal Household. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa together form an artistic monument of great significance to the nation. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa is owned by the Berardo Foundation, belonging to the Berardo family whose patriarch is Comendador José Berardo. On 23 June 1910 it was classified as a National Monument. In the surrounding area, visitors can find picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of Portugal's most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
