The acclaimed Argentine winemaker Alejandro Vigil unveils, at Catena Zapata, the “Birth of Cabernet,” an authentic wine allegory about the origins of Cabernet Sauvignon. To craft it, he hand‑picked two Mendoza vineyards of this variety and Cabernet Franc, grown in El Cepillo (Vale de Uco) and Agrelo (Luján de Cuyo) above 1,000 m. Legend says the first Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sprouted after a swarm of bees pollinated Cabernet Franc flowers, leading to the white “Sauvignon Branco” blossoms. This tale is symbolically rendered on the label, featuring a fox embodying Cabernet Franc with Cardinal Richelieu’s attributes, a mermaid‑bird hybrid personifying Sauvignon Branco, and their offspring, the wandering fox of Cabernet Sauvignon. The inaugural harvest of this liquid tribute bursts with vivacity, character, precision, freshness, complexity, and, simultaneously, an exceptional ease of drinking.
