The Cos, as it was known, was created in the hands of Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a man who had only one passion – the small property of Cos – which he considered so special that in 1811 he decided to begin bottling his production. Unfortunately, his passion ultimately became his downfall, as he accrued numerous debts in an attempt to expand and embellish the estate, resulting in its sale in 1985. The château changed hands several times until it reached the Prats family (also producers of Chryseia with the Symington family). In 2000, Bruno Prats sold Cos d'Estournel to Michel Reybier, the current owner. (illustrative image only)
