Colares wine is characterised by being unique in the world. The terroir, strongly influenced by the Atlantic, produces wines with extraordinary salinity, as well as complex aromas that improve with bottle ageing. This house was founded in 1898 by António Bernardino da Silva Chitas in Azenhas do Mar. In its early years, sales were mainly focused on the Lisbon region and large‑scale export to Brazil. It was later taken over by his son, also named António Bernardino da Silva Chitas Jr., and currently by his grandson, António Bernardino Paulo da Silva. Today, sales are not only concentrated in the domestic market but also largely directed toward exporting wines to various countries in Europe and the United States of America. (Illustrative image)
