“This Croft Vintage is certainly an intriguing puzzle. Despite a 2018 growing season that could charitably be described as ‘challenging’ – bordering on turning Portugal into a desert – the result is remarkably robust, with a character that stubbornly resists the drought. The exotic fruit and wild berry notes are a testament to the resilience of the grapes, nourished by a particularly damp Spring. Its balanced acidity and fruity elegance are truly impressive. Harvested in September under intense heat, the vintage seems to have accelerated the vine’s cycle, yet abundant soil moisture ensured a uniform maturation. Remarkably, this wine proves that adversity can, occasionally, be the key to brilliance. Wonderful with game or aged cheeses.”
