This “Dona Berta Sousão Special Reserva” clearly took a long nap – and you can probably taste it. It presents with an intriguing, almost secretive appearance, hinting at a powerful burst of black fruit that’s already starting to announce itself on the nose with notes of dark chocolate, a truly respectable cocoa influence. A promising wine from the Sousa region, as so brilliantly assessed by Robert Parker (92 points), who noted the firm tannins and suggested a period of maturation to fully unlock its potential. Seriously, it’d be fantastic with a grilled fish and roasted potatoes, or perhaps a classic beef stroganoff.
