Cedro do Noval Cedro, named after the iconic cedar tree that presides over the terrace of Quinta do Noval, is an authentic expression of the Douro. Made mainly from traditional Portuguese grape varieties, it also includes Syrah, which rounds out and opens up the fruit profile, lending the wine charm and approachability. HARVEST CHARACTERISTICS 2020 The year 2020 was marked by two distinct periods. Winter and spring, until the end of May, brought abundant rainfall, replenishing the soil's water reserves. However, the humidity favoured some outbreaks of downy mildew, which were successfully controlled. From June onwards, very hot and dry conditions set in, resulting in lower yields but wines of great quality and personality. The harvest of the red grapes took place between 1 and 22 September. Despite a smaller crop than anticipated, the wines show great concentration, structure and character. The year's conditions produced higher alcohol levels, balanced by the intensity of the ripe fruit. Touriga Nacional stood out, giving silky and floral wines, while Tinto Cão proved highly relevant for its resilience and delicacy. TERROIR Cedro do Noval is a blended wine produced from traditional Douro grape varieties, including Syrah, which was first planted at Quinta do Noval in 2000. Its varietal expression is enhanced by the excellent terroir conditions of the estate. VINIFICATION 35% Touriga Nacional, 25% Syrah, 20% Touriga Francesa, 15% Tinta Roriz, 5% Tinto Cão The grape varieties are vinified separately in stainless steel tanks for about 7 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. AGEING Aged for 10 months in 225-litre French oak barrels: 10% new, 60% second-year and 30% third-year. The final blend is assembled one month before bottling.
