This “Esperança” from the Alentejo – a thoughtful blend of Trincadeira, Castelão, and Aragonez – clearly benefited from a rather charming youthful maturation. The carefully controlled fermentation laid the foundation, followed by a barrel aging in French oak which has given it a wonderfully smooth texture. Those impressive 16 points awarded by *Revista de Vinhos* certainly reflect the wine’s intensity and complex aromas of red and black fruits, now with a subtle hint of pepper. It’s a well-structured wine with a lingering finish – utterly delightful with a hearty stews like rabbit.
