This Touriga Franca from Herdade da Calada is clearly aiming for a particularly refined ruby colour. The carbonic maceration clearly worked its magic, delivering a wonderful freshness – enhanced by its time ageing in new French oak – giving it a robust structure. Those classic floral notes of roses and wild herbs are present, as you’d expect, and, judging by the respected wine magazine’s 16.5 points, it’s a grace deserving of a slow savouring, particularly alongside a hearty black pork roast, wouldn’t you agree?
