Maçanita A regional Alentejo wine. Made from typical Alentejo grape varieties, the winemaking intervention is practically nil, allowing the true aromas and flavours of the region to shine. Concept In 2007 we produced the first Fitapreta Tinto, with the mission of creating a red wine using the original Alentejo formula. A red made only with Alentejo grapes. The choice of Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira was obvious, but over time we discovered that the old vines revealed other varieties, fresher and more elegant, which once dominated the Alentejo. Thus, gradually we integrated these grapes, first Castelão, then Moreto, and now Trincadeira, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Carvalha, planted on granite soils. It is not an ancestral wine… nor contemporary, it is our – O ILUMINISTA. Viticulture The grapes are cultivated under a biological production regime or Certified Integrated Production, without herbicides, and most vines are dry‑land, without irrigation. All our vines are also certified under the Alentejo sustainability programme. Age of vines Average 30 years. The vines are planted on very poor, xistaceous or granite soils, which naturally yields highly concentrated grapes. The aromatic profile is further enhanced by cultural practices such as leaf removal, green harvesting and cluster pruning. Vinification Manual harvest at night, with selection at the sorting table. Tanks are filled by gravity. Spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentations. Cuvaison for 20 days. Maturation 12 months, 50 % in French oak and 50 % in stainless steel.
