Moreto

About this grape variety

An Alentejo red grape of medium colour, soft tannin and gentle structure, Moreto is rarely bottled solo but plays a useful supporting role in field blends and rosés. Easy-drinking with red-cherry and herbal notes, it ripens early and works well as a blending component to round out more structured Aragonez or Trincadeira. Plantings have declined as more prestigious varieties have taken hold, but old-vine Moreto in Vidigueira and Reguengos still appears in distinctive traditional bottlings.
