This Maria João Reserva boasts a wonderfully deep ruby hue, clearly having enjoyed a lengthy chat with ripe blackberries, raspberries, and perhaps a hint of blackcurrant. Twelve months in French oak have imparted a subtle influence, lending a beautifully polished smoothness and an aroma that gracefully blends balsamic notes with the characteristic floral scents of the Dão region. It’s a remarkably persistent and well-structured wine – seriously, it lingers – and would pair wonderfully with a hearty, slow-roasted beef.
