This Meruge Magnum from the Douro is a delightful surprise. Fermented in a traditional lagar and aged in new French oak, it boasts a complexity that’s frankly rather charming. The spice notes – a truly captivating nose – are beautifully integrated by the wood. It’s a wonderfully balanced wine, perfect alongside cured meats or a good roasted turkey breast; one that I suspect will be sought after again.
