This Monte da Peceguina is a delightfully perplexing Alentejo wine – it feels like it’s been brewed up using a rather ambitious recipe. Predominantly made with Encruzado, Trincadeira and Viosinho, it’s certainly aiming for complexity. The inclusion of Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Franca and Baga injects a welcome dose of boldness, as if the producer was keen to demonstrate that the Alentejo could be a little more than just elegantly restrained. A gold medal from Revista de Canais suggests someone – and we – appreciate this quite daring blend. Excellent with grilled beef.
