“This Montinho São Miguel is clearly a wine with a determined personality – harvested under the cover of darkness, it’s a bit of a whirlwind. The overnight mechanical harvest, coupled with complete de-stemming, suggests a producer keen on extracting maximum flavour, though perhaps a little aggressively. That 48-hour cold maceration is certainly precise, and the stainless steel fermentation afterwards keeps things under control. The brief barrel ageing in 400L vessels adds a velvety texture, ideal for pairing with grilled beef and aged cheeses. It's a wine that demands attention, but rewards it handsomely.”
