Made exclusively from Setúbal Red Muscat, this generous wine was aged for a minimum of ten years in small 200‑litre oak barrels that had previously been used for whisky maturation. This ageing imparts a concentration, intensity and complexity of aromas and flavours that make it truly unique. Its deep topaz colour is the prelude to an intense, rich and complex muscat, offering floral notes of orange blossom, roses, raisins, almonds and honey. On the palate it is smooth, with good persistence and flavours that mirror the aromatics, where the sweetness is nicely balanced by a good acidity and a hint of astringency. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has travelled a long journey, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company began by producing wines from grapes in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa expanded, acquiring estates across the country and setting new standards for quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still in existence in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an ancient property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Bacalhôa Palace form a monument of artistic significance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, a family estate whose patriarch is Comendador José Berardo. It was declared a National Monument on 23 June 1910. Around the estate, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
