A family business with almost two centuries of history that, never resting on its laurels, has managed to modernise. José Maria da Fonseca has been engaged in winemaking since 1834, a product of a family’s shared passion that has preserved and projected the memory and prestige of its founder. Aware of the responsibility of being today the oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel de Setúbal in Portugal, José Maria da Fonseca follows a philosophy of continual development, investing increasingly in research and production support and blending the latest techniques with traditional know‑how. A prime example is the José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes winery in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Alentejo, where the Roman tradition of fermenting in clay pots coexists with the latest technology.
