Mouchão Tonel 3‑4 is one of the most emblematic expressions of the Alicante Bouschet grape, showcasing its full potential for structure and longevity. Originating from the historic Vinha dos Carapetos and produced using traditional methods, it ages for many years in wooden barrels, followed by bottle aging. It displays an intense ruby colour and a complex aromatic profile, with notes of dark fruit, spices, black olives, mint, and subtle mineral nuances. On the palate it offers firm, structured tannins, great depth, and remarkable balance, ensuring an extraordinary capacity for ageing and evolution. At the beginning of the 19th century, Thomas Reynolds moved to the Alentejo region to pursue the cork business. Three generations later, his grandson John Reynolds acquired the Herdade do Mouchão estate for wine production. In 1901 the first vines were planted, and in 1929 construction began on a traditional cellar and a distillery that still produces Mouchão Brandy today. Today, the Herdade do Mouchão remains managed and worked by descendants of the original family, and the entire winemaking process has remained virtually unchanged, preserving the traditional hand‑harvest and fermentation of grapes in stone troughs, with foot‑treading. It is these techniques and the estate’s long‑standing success story that keep this winery so close to what wines were, in the past. (image purely illustrative)
