The 50‑Year‑Old Tawny from Quinta do Vallado is made from a blend of grapes grown on old vines planted with Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, among others. It’s a Port with a very intense, complex aroma that hints at resin and crystallised orange. On the palate it is rich and well‑structured, with a bright citrus flavour, subtle touches of honey and iodine, a vibrant acidity and a long, lingering finish. Quinta do Vallado, one of the most prestigious estates in the Douro, was once the property of D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira – the Ferreirinha – and remains in her descendants’ hands today. The wines of Vallado had been unjustly forgotten, but have now naturally reclaimed their lost glory. They are wines of great historical importance in the Douro and deserve a place among the top tier. Founded in 1716, the estate is one of the oldest in the region and sits just outside Régua on the banks of the River Corgo. Its fate now rests with João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who oversee the company’s management and enology respectively.
