Niepoort O Vertente is an alluring wine on the road to elegance and complexity, marrying the fruit and concentration of Douro wines with the freshness and elegance of Niepoort wines. The grapes come from Quinta de Nápoles, a vineyard about 30 years old in the Tedo valley, and from old vines near Pinhão ranging from 50 to 80 years old. Winemaking: The 2022 growing season was the driest of the 21st century! The 2022 harvest was the earliest ever! In recent years we have seen greater climatic variability and a higher frequency of extreme events, such as heat waves and heavy rains that characterised 2022 in the Douro. As we naturally work at Niepoort, this climatic variability has a great impact on the final profile of the wines, and thus this year was a year to remember… The harvest at Quinta de Nápoles began on 4 August. After selecting grapes in the vineyard, a second selection was carried out at the picking table. O Vertente 2022 was vinified in truncated conical stainless‑steel tanks. The wine aged for 22 months in French oak barrels. O Vertente combines power and elegance, which contributes to good ageing potential. Pairing suggestions: white meats (turkey, chicken), grilled dishes, fatty fish (salmon, grouper); vegetarian suggestions: pasta and quiches.
