Description

Niepoort O Charme is a rare Douro wine. Its elegance and complexity, along with enveloping, soft tannins, provide a unique expression of old vines aged between 70 and over 100 years, fresher and sheltered in Vale de Mendiz, right in the heart of the Pinhão valley. Dirk Niepoort sees Charme as his final interpretation and outspoken passion for Burgundy. A signature wine, a singular offering. Charme is the only calm wine produced in the Vale de Mendiz cellar, in round granite vats. **Agricultural Year**: The 2023 crop began exceptionally positively, with a humid winter crucial for replenishing water reserves after a severely dry previous year. Spring was relatively warm and dry, followed by a normally hot summer. Harvest in Vale de Mendiz started under extremely hot conditions on 24 August, with the last grape clusters harvested on 26 September. Entire bunches were lightly crushed in granite vats, preserving the traditional Niepoort vinification character. The most decisive moment in this process is the pre‑fermentation maceration and the start of alcoholic fermentation, a short but intense extraction phase. Fermentation began in granite vats and finished in French oak barrels, where the wine ages for 15 months.
