Niepoort O Batuta is a wine of extremes that behaves with a surprisingly discreet character; its tannins are present but very fine, its aroma intense yet never exuberant, and it is full of concentration typical of the old Douro vines, while always remaining fresh and elegant. The Batuta increasingly defies convention, where less is more. The base of this wine comes from the Carril vine, over 70 years old, situated on a north‑facing slope that allows for slower, balanced ripening. The grapes also come from other ancient vines (about 100 years) near Quinta de Nápoles. The Batuta is the result of a delicate vinification, with prolonged macerations but limited extraction, with every detail carefully considered to yield a complex, fine, and elegant wine, full of concentration, typical of the old Douro vines.
