This Niepoort Museum dos Lagares is, quite frankly, a wine that makes you question the very definition of “elegance.” Born under the influence of generous winters, harsh summers, and a spring that seemed reluctant to ripen the Vinhas Velhas grapes, it presents a nose evocative of the soul of the Douro – black cherry, tobacco, and a hint of smoke, hinting at the ancient art of the lagar. The palate is a fairytale of freshness, with a structure so refined you almost feel sorry for drinking it. A long, persistent finish, with spicy nuances, is the perfect ending to a wine that, according to experts, deserves a place on the podium – and which pairs divinely with a good black pork roast, for a complete flavour contrast.
