This Piano Grande Reserva certainly looks like it’s been holding onto some Douro secrets – a deep, almost black hue. The blend of intense black fruit notes with tobacco nuances, all underpinned by vanilla from new oak ageing, really impressed the Grandes Escolhas judges, who awarded it 17.5 points. Expect firm tannins and a refreshing acidity, very much reflective of the terroir, leading to a vibrant finish with impressive length. Wonderful with game or a slow-cooked beef, really.
