This Pontual, hailing from the Alentejo, clearly has a meticulous approach – a rather determined de-stemming and a maceration that reveals plenty of nuance. Vinified in stainless steel lagars with a controlled fermentation at 25°C, it’s evident this producer isn’t one for surprises. The ageing in both French and American oak barrels adds a welcome softness, beautifully balancing the structure imparted by the Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Touriga Nacional grapes. Seriously, this would pair brilliantly with a good, grilled beef – a truly satisfying combination.
