Porca de Murça Porca de Murça is the leading brand of the Douro region, celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2018 and becoming one of Portugal’s oldest wine brands. The brand emerged from a legend rooted in the town of Murça, in the Alto Douro wine region. It was said that many years ago, a magnificent wild boar roamed the forests around the town, destroying crops and attacking small animals. To end the torment, a hunt was organized that brought together the most skilled hunters in the area. After great effort, they managed to bring down the boar, erecting a statue in its honor at the center of the village. Thus the legend of the Porca de Murça was born, inspiring this emblematic brand. Vinification and Maturation A classic blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca. Each variety ferments separately in stainless‑steel tanks before co‑maturing in the same vessels for six months. Suggested Pairings Pairs beautifully with oven‑roasted veal, Asturian rabbit stew, Bacalhau à Brás (traditional Portuguese cod dish), pork ribs, and Parmesan cheese. The Porca de Murça Red captures the full tradition of the Douro region with a classic yet fresh and aromatic style.
