Herdade do Monte da Ribeira dates back to 1958 and was acquired in 1986 by industrialist Victor Carmona e Costa who, over the following 15 years, not only completely renovated the Estate but also established the entire current agricultural production structure and winery. The Estate is located in the parish of Pedrogão, in the municipality of Vidigueira, near the village of Marmelar. It therefore covers an area of approximately 1,100 hectares, dedicated to viticulture and forestry. As one of the estate's main focuses is wine production, the first vineyard was planted in 1989 and the first harvest came in 1992, marketed under the Vidigueira brand. Later, the Pousio and Quatro Caminhos brands were added and, more recently, the Marmelar brand.
