This Queimas D’Ovaia is a delightfully unpretentious expression of the producers’ collective talent – a touch of humility, perhaps, or simply refreshing honesty. Fermented on granite, for a full ten days, it’s clearly aiming for a robust texture. And those ten months in stainless steel have done a superb job of preserving the character of the grapes – notably Touriga Nacional, Jaen, and Alfrocheiro – resulting in a wine with a serious attitude. It’s a bold blend, grown from vines with fascinating histories, and would certainly stand up well alongside a hearty beef roast.
