“Born in the heart of the Alentejo, this Quinta do Carmo red is a fascinating blend of tradition and forward-thinking winemaking. The meticulous approach – separating the vinification by grape variety (Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, and Trincadeira) – truly allows each grape’s distinctive character to shine. Thanks to the influence of Lafite Rothschild, the modern winery boasts state-of-the-art equipment, meticulously controlling fermentation with extended maceration in both lagares and inox tanks. The result is a deeply ruby-coloured wine, bursting with aromas of ripe compote and luscious fruit, subtly enhanced by vanilla notes from its 12 months aging in French oak. On the palate, it offers a remarkably balanced and elegant experience, featuring supple tannins and a concentrated structure – a testament to both the remarkable terroir and the expertise of enologist Rui Vieira. Having garnered awards including medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards and International Wine & Spirits Competition, this wine is a perfect accompaniment to the hearty flavours of Alentejo cuisine, particularly grilled meats, cheeses, and cured meats. A genuine gem from the Alentejo that’s sure to continue maturing beautifully, if treated with the respect it deserves.”
