It is at Velho Sobral that Cristina Simões, daughter of the founder, grows up with her grandparents, learning the art of the land, playing, and above all discovering a love that still overflows with pride. She began her dream with sacrifice in 1997, annexing land to Velho Sobral, reconstituting old vines with new plantings, and building her cellar in 2000, constantly improving its technology and space. The Quinta do Sobral now has 15 hectares of vines in production and more than 20 hectares of forest, essential to the terroir of Dão wine. Returning to her sacrifices and betting on the project, Cristina, a teacher by profession, and Jorge Loureiro, a hotel manager of a 5‑star complex in England, form a passionate couple with shared ideas. Embracing Nelson Simões’ project, they realise their dream by leaving behind settled careers to focus entirely on the Quinta do Sobral. We reach a turning point at the estate, but it should not be assumed that Cristina and Jorge’s arrival caused the change; it was, in fact, Maria – the daughter, granddaughter and soul of the Quinta.
