Quinta das Murças Near one of the borders of Quinta das Murças, now part of the Esporão group, we find steep slopes forming a valley. The vineyards here are oriented predominantly north, shielding them from the sun, and when the wind passes, it whistles. These vineyards, with their unique plot characteristics, produce the highest elevations that give rise to the red wine Quinta das Murças Assobio. Made from the most traditional grapes of the region and honouring the winemaking tradition of the world’s oldest demarcated area, the Quinta das Murças Assobio red is fresh, versatile, and highly food‑pairing friendly. Year: Another hot year, with mild winters that were above average yet with heavy rainfall. Spring was also hot, advancing the vines’ cycle by about ten days. Consequently, in summer, with soil water reserves, ripening proceeded well and the vines matured very quickly. We harvested the first grapes for the Assobio red on 30 August, with excellent balance. Vinification: Manual harvest, selection table, de-stemming, crushing, cold pre‑fermentation maceration, controlled‑temperature alcoholic fermentation (max 25 °C), pneumatic pressing. 6 months in concrete tanks. Winemakers: Lourenço Charters and José Luis Moreira da Silva.
