This wine, a fascinating collaboration between Mário Romano Cunha and Raul Pérez, certainly proves that Trás-os-Montes possesses a remarkable, and perhaps slightly intimidating, character. Cunha’s dedication – relentlessly ‘enslaving’ his vines with meticulous pruning of just 1kg per vine for reds – results in a truly concentrated burst of luscious aromas and flavours. It’s a wonderfully ripe and decadent expression, largely thanks to the combination of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz/Tinta Amarela. Seriously, this would pair beautifully with grilled Iberian pork, drizzled with honey, to really showcase the wine's potential for ageing gracefully.
