The estate where the Serras de Grândola wines are produced features a 50‑year‑old vineyard planted in 1961 and a newer one established in 2008. Both vineyards are situated about 10 km from the coast, between the beaches of Aberta Nova and Galé, and benefit from Atlantic breezes. They sit at 150 m above sea level on the western slope of Serra de Grândola, providing the necessary nighttime coolness for proper ripening. The soils are highly mineralised, dominated by iron and slate, which enhance the unique character of the location. The wines are made in the house cellar with the help of the whole family. The soils are low in organic matter but rich in iron. (illustrative image)
