This Trinca Bolotas is a wonderfully robust offering from the Alentejo – a wine that truly embodies the region’s character. Crafted primarily with Alicante Bouschet alongside Aragonez and Touriga Nacional, it delivers remarkably smooth tannins and a nose brimming with the distinctive aromas of the “montados” – the cork oak forests where the famed Alentejo pork enjoys its bounty. Luís Cabral de Almeida has masterfully balanced the grapes, resulting in a wine that’s exceptionally well-suited to richer dishes like roasted poultry or hearty pasta, really elevating the experience. A wine to be savoured, certainly, but one deserving of careful storage – kept cool, dark and horizontal, of course.
