This Vale D. Maria is a genuine step back in time – a remarkable 21 months aging in French oak that, thankfully, hasn’t robbed it of its Douro Superior soul. Crafted with a beautiful blend of Touriga Nacional, Baga, Aragonez, Touriga Francesa and Alicante Bouschet, and produced from foot-tread vineyards in lagares, it’s a technique as old as the hills. Boasting a respectable 92 points from James Suckling, this is a wine deserving of a celebratory roast – perhaps a perfectly cooked ribeye?
