The blend lends it greater complexity and depth. On the palate it offers a silky texture, firm yet well‑integrated tannins, resulting in a voluminous, elegant structure with a persistent, harmonious finish. Quinta Vale D. Maria, situated in the heart of the Douro—specifically in the Cima Corgo's Vale do Rio Torto—has roots going back to 1868. A new era of excellence began in 1996 when Cristiano van Zeller acquired the estate from his wife Joana Lemos van Zeller’s family. Over more than two decades, Cristiano has steered a passion‑driven effort to produce unique wines of recognized quality both in Portugal and abroad. In 2017 Aveleda Group’s acquisition of Quinta Vale D. Maria continued this legacy, adding a long‑term vision centred on excellence and sustainability. The philosophy rests on a meticulous attention to detail—from hand‑picking the finest bunches and employing traditional vinification techniques, to selecting the best French oak barrels—while prioritising sustainable viticulture to maintain quality and respect natural resources.
