This Vale da Mata Reserva Tinto clearly took a dip in the Atlantic – one suspects a rather spirited arrival at the winery, perhaps via a vibrating table that left the grapes a touch bewildered. Fermented in French oak balseiros at a carefully controlled 24ºC, it’s amplifying those toasted nuances and wild berry notes, promising a seriously long, spicy finish. A respectable 90 points confirms it’s a fresh, elegant wine with a distinct personality, ideally suited to a good cut of meat or perhaps some foraged mushrooms. Remarkably, the absence of stabilization before bottling ensures a fascinating evolution – just as captivating as the wine itself.
