One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate that once belonged to Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira—known as the “Ferreirinha”—and that remains today in the hands of her descendants. Vallado wines had been unjustly forgotten, but have now naturally reclaimed the time lost. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro, deserving a place at the top. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado stands as one of the oldest properties in the region. It is situated near Régua, on the banks of the Corgo River. The future of this iconic estate is in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the management of the company and the enology, respectively.
