The Vallado Reserva red is produced from vines aged 60 to 100 years, comprising more than 35 traditional Douro grape varieties, with a predominance of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barroca. After malolactic fermentation it ages for 18 months in 225‑liter French oak barrels. It displays a very concentrated aroma, with notes of fig, blackberry, tobacco, and subtle balsamic nuances from the wood. On the palate it is full‑bodied and meaty, with mature, round tannins, finishing with an elegant, mineral, persistent, and complex finale. One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, once owned by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the Ferreirinha, and still in the hands of her descendants today. Vallado wines were unjustly forgotten and have now naturally recovered their lost time. They are of great importance to the history of the Douro and deserve to be in the top echelons. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the Douro. It is located near Régua, on the banks of the Corgo River. The future of this emblematic estate rests in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the business management and enology, respectively.
