Vallado Reserva Red is made from old vines aged between 60 and 100 years, comprising more than 35 traditional Douro grape varieties, with a predominance of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for 18 months in 225‑litre French oak barrels. It presents a very concentrated aroma, with notes of fig, blackberry, tobacco and subtle balsamic nuances from the wood. On the palate it is full‑bodied and plush, with mature and rounded tannins, finishing with an elegant, mineral, persistent and complex finish. One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro, Quinta do Vallado was once owned by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the Ferreirinha, and remains today in the hands of her descendants. The Vallado wines have long been unjustly forgotten, but have naturally reclaimed their lost time. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro and deserve to be at the pinnacle of any collection. Founded in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the Douro. Located near Régua on the banks of the Corgo River, its fate lies in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the management and enology of the estate, respectively.
