This Zagalos Reserva, born in the heart of the Alentejo, is a delightful reminder that tradition can certainly tango with a bit of daring. The ageing in oak barrels has imparted a lovely smoothness, beautifully showcasing the red fruit notes of Aragonez and Trincadeira, while the Alicante Bouschet and Cabernet Sauvignon add a welcome depth and complexity. It’s a wine that clearly pays homage to the legacy of Quinta do Mouro – a producer we’ve come to know and love for its truly distinctive wines. I’d recommend pairing it with a perfectly grilled beef dish or something featuring fragrant spices.
